Nature Hike For Kids

by admin

Kids love the outdoors. With so much to explore, this is a great option for a fun kid’s activity. Many people have wooded areas in their backyard. This is the easiest way to take advantage of this opportunity. However, if you do not have this, there are always public wooded areas as well as state and national parks to consider. These options are all free or very cheap ways to find excitement and adventure for kids.

When you decide on an area to explore, be sure to bring all the necessary equipment for a nature hike. Depending on the child’s age, consider a size appropriate back pack for them. This will allow them to carry their own essentials so you don’t have the extra weight, as well as giving them an opportunity to show responsibility. Pack their bag with water, some snacks, maybe a lunch if you will be out at that time, and whatever else they feel would be important. This can be a great lesson for them to learn what necessities are. Consider bringing other items such as a magnifier to inspect small insects, binoculars to see wildlife, a bag to collect neat leaves or stones, a blanket for a picnic, etc. This can be a short activity, or it can fill up an afternoon.

While on your hike there are plenty of things you can do such as bird watching, leave finding, stone collecting and others. The possibilities are endless and all it takes are little imaginations going to work to come up with some fun ideas. The idea is to get them out there in nature where they can explore, have fun and get their exercise all at the same time. Your kids will have a blast.

Attention holiday goers; I have at long last, been able to decipher what everyone is going to owe me for the Touring caravan insurance for our holiday with the kids this spring. Please aim to get this to me by Wednesday so I can get it squared away before we are ready to leave.
