Physical skills book |
Making a book about your child’s physical skills will teach them about their own bodies and about what they find easy to do and what they find difficult to do. It will be an enjoyable activity that parents can do with their child or siblings could have fun doing together. First of all gather up all the things you need:-
photos of the child, thick paper, glue. marker pens, stickers, hole punch and binder
Find photos of the child engaged in various physical skills:-
standing on head, doing a forward roll, doing football, ballet, martial arts, running, egg and spoon race, balancing a book on their head, swimming on holiday.pitch and putt, bowling and many more to chose from.
Stick a photo on the top of one page, write a sentence underneath beginning with
“I can _______________”and ask the child to fill in or help to fill in the blank. Do this for each skill, encouraging the child to write the words, spell the words and decorate the pages with similar activities drawings or stamps. Finally hole punch each page, bind together in binder and ask the child to think of a great title for their book. This activity promotes physical movement and makes it an engaging activity for a one to one between a parent and child or a group activity with siblings and parents, you may even find your kids putting on some brooks running shoes and going outside to work on the skills in the book and improve a bit for next time you play together.
To make it even more fun you could always let the adults make their own physical skills book and then compare how active the children are compared to the adults. If you wanted to be really thorough you could always give yourself scores as to how well you do each activity, and no cheating- be honest. it would be a great thing to keep and then in a years time, look back and see if you are less or more active than you were before.
